Insurance For The Weak (Awesomest Weekend Ever)

Mon Aug 21, 2006, 7:52 PM

So the festival I attended was pretty darn awesome. I don't have pictures from friday night, but I do have some from saturday. Won't you join me as I retell of the awesomeness?
I was thrilled at the way my day was going to work out perfectly so I could see about 90% of the bands I wanted to see. I stayed at the Hard Music Stage a while, but ran out to the gallery stage for Bradley Hathaway's set:
Bradley rocks the mic.
This kid was so much fun to watch. I am a big fan of his poetry. I run back over to the HM stage to see showbread, who are also awesome.
Yes, that IS a key-tar.
Paramore was supposed to play, but they got sick or something, so we hoped that showbread would play for another hour. We were dissapointed of course, so my friend and I headed over to the vendors building.
pwnt.
Bad Idea. I appologize for the crappiness of every image, but this one especially. My shutter got all screwed up because I have a really terrible digital camera. Anyway, as you can see, we were kind of stuck. It was really dumb. People started trying to use the "I have to pee" thing, and they cut through spaces if they could. I suggested pretending that I was in labor, which, if anyone looked at me, would not have worked. I would've also been kicked out of the festival. My friend suggested he pretend to be in labor, but that never came through. I love that kid.
Anyway, we finally got out of there, and trekked on over to see dead poetic.
Out with the old...
HALF of dead poetic's set was made up of NEW SONGS! Who goes to a concert to hear new songs? Also they had a crappy time because some of their equiptment went nuts. On the bright side, I'm much more at ease about their "new sound" than I was before.
After that, there was time to hit the showdown since schedules went weird when he is legend's tour bus broke down.
Getting Snake-bit by the showndown.
The showdown put on a solid set. It was so crisp and clear, which is kind of ironic, since they're this uber metal "growlgrowlgrowlrahhhhrekjrrrrghhh!" kind of band. It was good. It was hard. It rocked my brains out. I loved it.
Norma Jean was kind enough to wait for the showdown so they could perform. That was one crazy show. First of all, the place was packed tight, even for a pretty open field. There were two clumps, and the one closer to the stage became a mosh pit. The entire freaking crowd was a mosh pit.
O God, the moshpit.
After that, he is legend was moved to main stage. This conflicted with my plans to see the choir. The choir are some of the OGs (Original Gangsters) of Christian alternative music. They're getting all old and stuff, and I felt that this might be my last time to see them. I was told not to rush, because there'd be no crowd to fight. I stupidly ran over there like a retard, thinking that they would open with "Yellow Skies" and that I would miss it. I ended up being the only person in the front. I saw a ton of fans that could've been mistaken for members of ZZ Top. I got some nice pictures, though.
I was the youngest one who willingly attended.
I want a synth-flute-thing like the guy in the back has.
If only they played something off Speckled Bird
The choir was once described as the cure on prozac.
Even after seeing him, I still can't believe in Derri Daugherty.
He is in a band called the Astronaut Pushers now.
Are you saying to yourself, "Don't I know that man from somewhere?" Yes! You're right! It's Matt Slocum from Sixpence None The Richer fame! It's so strange how much he looks like my father... eerie.
Anyway, after the Choir, I ate some dinner. We visited the vendors once more, this time collecting autographs and actually MOVING for crying out loud. We returned to the main stage to watch mewithoutYou, who ended up having a jam of sorts with anathallo and the psalters.
All in all, this was probably the most perfect day of all time. And if this day was that cool, I can't imagine what heaven's going to be like...

I have no artistic talent. My page will now become an outlet fostering links to my AMVs. I can't draw but I sure as hell can manipulate video.
